The Choice of Sexuality
The Choice of Sexuality
By Samuel Marcus Brown
In light of our very courageous President who has taken a strong position in support of marriage for 2 people of the same sex; I would like to pose a couple of interesting questions and share some of the personal choices that I've made in my life.
Do you remember the day and the exact time of when you decided to become attracted to a male or female?
Do you remember how you said to yourself that I think that I’ll try a woman today and then I’ll try a man tomorrow?
Think about that for a few minutes...
Those are pretty ridiculous questions aren’t they?
If you feel that you actually had a choice in choosing the gender that you genuinely have intimate, romantic, spiritual and sexual attraction for; I’m afraid that you’re probably lying to yourself and to whomever you’re intimate with or may have dealt with intimately.
Choosing to wear blue contact lenses over your brown eyes is clearly a choice.
I chose not to lie anymore to myself, my family and friends and the women that I have had in my life.
I chose not to live by the beat of my ego and my masculine pride to marry a woman as a facade to satisfy my perceived image problem.
I choose to understand that sexuality is not nearly all about a sexual act.
I chose to hold on to my faith in God and to allow Jesus the Christ to be the Lord of my life when most in Christianity reject my authenticity.
I choose to study and understand the Holy King James Version of the bible within it’s proper context in order to reject the anti-gay religious tradition which is truly anti-Christ.
I choose to understand that the divisive and prejudiced anti-gay sentiment in Christianity was created by flawed people within Christianity and it certainly was not created by the loving and sovereign God my creator.
I choose to understand that the covenant of a union of love between 2 people and God is established well before the legally binding state contract of USA marriage which is a civil right for all people.
Ultimately, I choose and try to live my life authentically and unapologetic with integrity; these are some of the real choices that I have had to make.
